| ALL ABOUT GRAYHAVEN BOSTONS More Information Than You Ever Wanted to Know About Us... Both Matt and I have kept (been owned by!) dogs our whole lives. We became interested in Obedience & Conformation showing after buying our first Labrador Retriever in 1989. I was also active in two nursing homes, with my Visiting/Therapy Dogs, Josephine (Labrador) and Bugsy (Boston) at my side. Since those early days, Matt & I have never had fewer than two dogs in the house; it's usually been more like three or four (or 10)! We have enjoyed raising our dogs & children together & have never looked back with any regrets. Our initial experience in dog breeding was gained with Labradors. Even though we had Bostons at the time, we did not breed them; we simply enjoyed them as pets and family members. Once our last Labrador passed-on & our four children grew older, we decided to finally venture into showing, breeding, & extolling the virtues of the dog breed closest to our hearts: the Boston Terrier, the true "American gentleman." Cricket, our first female, "GrayHaven's Country Cricket," is a wonderfully-tempered dog. She gets along with everyone & everything she happens to meet. When Cricket passed her OFA-patella (& prelim. OFA-elbows/hips) and CERF exams, we began looking for a suitable male with whom to breed her. When we met CH "Caja's Maestro," ROM, we knew he was the one! Maestro was a 9 year-old seal & white Boston, with a fantastic attitude. He weighed about 14 pounds & I think he used every pound of it to tackle & lick our kids' ears when we first met him! In breeding Maestro to our Cricket, our goal for that initial breeding was to hopefully produce one or two very nice quality, slightly larger (up to 19 pounds) Bostons. Our plan was to keep a female, if an obviously-improved one was whelped, to then breed for our next generation, with an eye toward the conformation ring. Their litter of 3 wonderful pups was whelped on 10/27/02: 2 males & 1 female. All beautiful and healthy! Punkin, "GrayHaven's First Call" was our "keeper pup" from that first breeding between "Maestro" & "Cricket." She was a really lovely girl with excellent markings, great ear-set, beautiful eyes. Punkin was much more refined & more closely conformed to the AKC Breed Standard than her mother, Cricket. Punkin is currently OFA-patella, CERF, BAER, & OFA-thyroid certified. *Both Cricket & Punkin are retired & living the good life together in their new home. Pinky, "GrayHaven's Apocalypse Now" is another daughter of Cricket's, sired by a fantastic Champion boy by the name of CH "KC's High Faluten Captain," or "Bobby." Pinky is an awesome little girl with tons of attitude & presence! Pinky is currently OFA-patella, CERF & BAER certified. She is "pointed" toward her AKC title, but has been retired from the show-ring & spayed after four litters. Wiley, CH "GrayHaven's Brains of the Operation" is our pride & joy. He was sired by CH "Motif's True Grit," CD, TDI. Wiley is a gorgeous seal-brindle & white boy weighing about 19 pounds; a very nice, substantial Boston. Wiley has been quite successful in the AKC show ring, trained & handled exclusively by our eldest son, Chase, who was then only 14 yrs old. With *very* limited showing in 2005/2006, Wiley won four single-point shows, a 3-pt major show, & two 4-pt major shows to gain his AKC Championship. Wiley is currently OFA-patella, CERF & BAER certified. Chaos, "GrayHaven's Chaotic Moment" is a daughter of our 2005 breeding between Wiley & Pinky. Chaos is a gorgeous black/brindle & white girl weighing-in at about 20 pounds. She definitely got her size from her daddy! Chaos is being shown by our youngest daughter, Anna. Chaos is OFA-patella, CERF, & BAER certified. Bouncer, "GrayHaven's Bouncin' Betty of Katbird" is our adorable little girl out of our 2008 breeding of our girl, Chaos to Katbird's Bostons' CH "Katbird's Outa This World." Stormie, "GrayHaven's Tempest In A Teacup," is just the most exquisite, tiny girl I've ever seen. She is the product of a mating between our girl, Pinky & Sharon Valley Bostons' gorgeous boy, CH "Sharon Valley Stryk 'N' It Rich.." Stormie is tiny, but she has everything in all the right places & it all moves just the right ways, so she will be heading into the show ring to turn some heads! Diva, "GrayHaven's Diva of CAJA" is not a show dog, nor does she even reside with us any longer! She's an entire generation's *heart dog.* So, even though she will never have babies or enjoy a big win in the show ring, I must include her here simply because she's such a vital & vibrant part of our story. She's a mini-mite that weighs-in at a whopping 9 pounds. She adores wearing flannel jammies, burrowing under blankets, or shirts, for that matter, & she's the nuttiest thing most folks will ever see on four legs. Visit her page -Darling Diva- if you're in need of a chuckle! Boo, "GrayHaven's Temporary Insanity," was one of our big hopes, born October 31, 2006; a singleton puppy. She is a daughter of our girl, Chaos & our retired boy, Havoc. Boo is a beautiful seal-brindle Boston with traditional, ideal markings. She did not grow & develop as we dreamed, so she has been placed with a Forever Family. Boo is CERF & BAER certified. Harry, "GrayHaven's Dirty Harry C." wasn't even a Boston. Harry was my husband's elderly, though still athletic, Bulldog. Harry went to the Rainbow Bridge 11/30/10. In the few years previous, Harry was arthritic, cranky, & preferred to sleep on his orthopedic bed rather than climb the stairs to snuggle with a kid, but he still found the "get-up-&-go" to waddle outdoors to tug at & hang on his rope swing & to raid the barn cat's bowl when the spirit took him. He was always "up" for a game of "tag" or flashlight beam chasing... We loved him deeply - especially Matt; Harry was his Heart Dog - & Harry's loss is a large cold spot in our home & hearts. Here at GrayHaven Bostons, we are always striving to improve our favorite breed, with continuous efforts to meet the AKC Breed Standard. Whether you are interested in Obedience, Agility, Conformation, Therapy/Visiting work or simply want a warm Boston with which to cuddle at night, GrayHaven offers it all...and if you want one dog that can do all of those things, a pretty good bet would be a GrayHaven Boston! | > Boston Byte < Originally created as a pit-fighting breed, Bostons rapidly shed that ferocious image & became the most-beloved & fashionable lady's companion of the turn-of-the-century. By 1920, Bostons were firmly established as "lovers - not fighters." |
| > Boston Byte < Well-bred Bostons are boisterous, confident, highly sociable, & exceptionally affectionate. They can also be a bit pigheaded, incredibly play-driven, & display a tendency toward "selective hearing." Obedience training is a *must.* |
| > Boston Byte < Bostons are *awesome* family dogs! They have a patience & high pain tolerance not seen in most small breeds. They are loyal & protective, without accompanying aggressiveness. |
